no day but today

I watched RENT last night..I always thought I would like it- i loved it...
Made me have another epiphany...basically that all previous epiphanies werent really followed through..and that when I thought I was acting those out I wasnt really going out of my comfort zone but merely expanding it..But then when I think of breaking out completely- it scares me...What dyu do when you dont know what to do?? ? ? It seems like a stupid question I know..but I dont think I ever do anything not expecting an outcome that I could somehow deal with..I have security barriers and if this thing doesnt pass by the sensors, it doesnt get through...Maybe I need something to sneak past those barriers and cause a sort of Columbine and wake me up - Better yet, how about I let down the barriers, avoid the massacre..but go outside and find destiny- beyond the institution of me...??
I dont know how many times I have these 'epiphanies'..will it sink in? will it ever really be followed through..or will I always think Im missing the mark??

well....again....for the nth time I say...here goes...

Another Day ("RENT")

The Heart May Freeze Or It Can Burn
The Pain Will Ease If I Can Learn
There Is No Future
There Is No Past
I Live This Moment
As My Last
There's Only Us
There's Only This
Forget Regret
Or Life Is Yours To Miss
No Other Road
No Other Way
No Day But Today

pot d'or

Was vibing with my roommate the other day and we were saying how we would like there to be that great musician from Africa(ideally many great already existing musicians should be exposed, but small steps first..) - the Miriam Makeba of modern day... Youssou, Masekela, Seal (..even) - although still amazing- are just not as accessible to the young people of the primary consuming market...i.e North America- specifically MTVers ,BETers,etc-ers..
So where will this Great African Hope come from? a close pal told me some months ago how Akon is- "just too cool" she said...'Locked Up' had just come out..Im like...hmm..i dunno meiin..He sounds like hes just another hip hop guy..But then she pointed out how he had that Youssou sound..Im like yeh yeh ok i hear it..but i was still skeptical...and recently i was like hes just another Nate Dogg, man...
That was until I heard 'Pot of Gold' the other day..I dont know if Im being too easy or is that a beautiful song...?? Maybe im just uselessly emotional- as always..but i think its just amazing! It brought tears to my eyes...(this coming from someone who once cried at that Sunlight advert- dyu remember it? the one with the glistening water..and the joy in the childs eyes..the slow motion...??)
As much as Id like to see him in a dashiki(??..im actually not sure what they are called) repping for Africa true style(watever true is defined as anyway..!),so that those kids in Stato dont just think hes 'another dark *rhymes with jigga* from the South side' its not reasonable...Whether he would be rep-ing for all of Africa is also another question?? Is he Tupac, with a happily ever after of course, and ...Eric Wainaina our hope of a Biggie?(SMALLIE?) (*writer self-reflection: am I serious?!? this sounds like Tyrone Koppell reporting??*)
Hes adapted to make it, and from a pop consumer basis hes G-ed up in what is today a sadly G-unified (MA$E..DMX?!?) hip-hop world (Kanyefication can be argued...but further analysis of numbers and projections would get that shot (nine times, of course) out of the debate)..
I hope that its from the inside that he'll infiltrate his way out to reflect a positive kayamba-shaking, dundun-drumming image of our eclectic continent - hopefully getting more Africans some long overdue exposure....

Anyway, my ramblings aside...I think this song is beautiful, a song of inspiration for everyone...And the tune , beat is all too much- that kick-off-shoes,arms-in-the-air,get-a-grass-skirt-made-just-to-wear-it-and
-shake-it
kind of good...

Pot of Gold

Life come and go
So let the history be told
We're all out here
Hustlin' to make our way
And while you're stumblin' and fallin'
Why don't you pick yourself up now
You see we all out here
Working day by day

So tell me
How can we work it out
On that day when its time to share the gold at the end of the rainbow
How can we work it out
When good and evil meet
The day you kiss His feet
Cause it will soon come

You soon lose track of which way is up when your always being put down
You gotta be strong and do what you feel in your heart
Regardless of who's around
I know it might seem bold
But thats all we have
Many centuries and we're steady gettin old
But you know to what we never had

Sooo
How can we work it out
On that day when its time to share the gold at the end of the rainbow
How can we work it out
When good and evil meet
The day you kiss His feet
Cause it will soon come

How can we work it out
On that day when its time to share the gold at the end of the rainbow
How can we work it out
When good and evil meet
The day you kiss His feet
Cause it will soon come

How can we work it out (dada)
Dodo (how can we work it out)
How can we work it out (dada)
Dodo ohhhh (dada)
How can we work it out (dodo)
Da da How can we work it out (dodo)
(everybody sing along with me)

How can we work it out
On that day when its time to share the gold at the end of the rainbow
How can we work it out
When good and evil meet
The day you kiss His feet
Cause it will soon come

How can we work it out ....

P.S ..OR MAYBE ALL THAT I'VE
SAID IS IRRELEVANT AND
THIS
GUY WILL BLOW UP...
HOPEFULLY

grillz?

...dyu think that in fifteen years we'll be looking back and praising Grillz the way other tacky antiquity like four-finger rings are big-upped today..? And i mean arent those things a bit of a safety issue, when you get jacked wearing a chain, at least you can hope that they wont take away part of you with them- the thief doesnt have to chop off your neck to get the gold rope...But u guy.. with the grillz don't you think that surely a molar or God forbid-some of your gum (!!) is also going to be making its way to the back alley?...They just seem like the least practical accessory..ama?! but yo..practicality never defined fashion..And yunno if I could afford it Id prolly get some platinum ones just to check if I really could 'cause a cold front if I take a deep breath'...
